Ever since taking Colgate's course entitled "The Challenge of Modernity," I have found myself continually faced with the very same issues that were raised in the class. Where is man to find value in his existence? To what extent is man free? How ought we to conduct our lives? Philosophers have been striving to answer these questions for centuries, and as I read more and more of their answers, I find myself less and less able to pinpoint a single conclusion.
This is a forum for my academic investigations into the challenges faced by man in this age of modernity. My investigations will center around both the possibility of freedom and the nature of morality in today's world. Do we have free wills? COULD we possess such a freedom? And if we are in fact free, how should we to direct our actions, according to what formulation of morality? The concepts of Freedom and Morality are two of the most fundamental issues of our human existence, and this blog will be a compilation of essays in which I address these issues (and others) through the critical examination of various philosophical texts.
Philosophers explored: Kant, Hegel, Nietzsche, and others.
